At K9 Supplies, we work closely with professional groomers and see first-hand how good blade care and regular sharpening can make a real difference to performance and longevity.
Caring for your blades helps from both an efficiency and cost perspective. Here are the key benefits:
Prolongs the life of your blades and clippers
Saves time and money
Helps blades stay sharper for longer
Maintains correct blade tension
Cleaning Blades with Blade Wash
Blades should be cleaned and disinfected after each dog and at the end of the day using H42 Blade Wash.
Blades should be oiled every 10–15 minutes of use.
Blade oil lubricates the moving parts of the blade, helping to reduce heat build-up during use. Regular oiling also supports smoother operation and consistent cutting.
How to clean your blades:
Detach blades from the clipper
Dip blades into a blade wash jar and wipe with a soft cloth
orSpray blades using a spray bottle

Blade Sharpening
Blades need to be sharpened when they start to drag and are not cutting as effectively.
How often do blades need to be sharpened?
This depends on many factors like how often you use your blades, how you use them and on what the condition of the dogs you are grooming (very dirty dogs or matted dogs etc)
Some blades may get blunt very quickly whereas some blades may stay sharp for months. Also remember that blade may notcut well if used on a clipper that needs servcing o get your clippers serviced regularly!
